The Importance Of Reflection During Your Job Search

Sometimes we’re so busy working that we don’t take time out to reflect on our progress, learning, and habits.  This can be problematic in that we run the risk of missing out on where we have made a valuable contribution, spotting a warning sign that could affect our work or not picking on praise and enjoying it.

What I’d like you to do now is take 5 minutes to reflect on two points:

  1.  What has gone well this week
  2. What could I do differently next week

Why?

So that you have an opportunity to consider your growth and development – key factors in job satisfaction.

Bonus Tip:

When your mind wanders off to find the negative stuff – it will :o) – have it find out:

“How can I use the learning from this experience to develop me in my career.”

If you find yourself coming up against resistance, judgment or self-criticism, bring your attention back to the questions.”What did I learn from this about myself?” or”How can I use the learning from this experience to develop me in my career.”

You can introduce this into your daily routine focusing on what has gone well in your day and what you can do differently the next day.  A commute could be a good time for this or 5 minutes at the start and end of each day when you get into and before you leave work.

“If the career you have chosen has some unexpected inconvenience, console yourself by reflecting that no career is without them.”

Jane Fonda
